Command Sgt. Maj. Gregory M. Smith
Command Sgt. Maj. Gregory M. Smith is a native of Jamaica. He enlisted in the Army as a Supply Specialist in September 1987, and completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He reclassified as a Dental Specialist and attended AIT at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, in 1992. He later transitioned to MOS 68Z, Senior Medical NCO.
Command Sgt. Maj. Smith’s assignments include: Supply Specialist, B Company, 50th Signal Battalion (ABN), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; NCOIC, Forward Dental Team, 665th Medical Company, Korea; Senior Dental NCO, Hanau Dental Clinic Command, Germany; First Sergeant, Fort Lewis Dental Activity, WA; Support Operations SGM, 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion (MMB), Command Sergeant Major, 261st MMB (Rear)(Provisional); G3 Sergeant Major, Southern Regional Medical Command; Command Sergeant Major, Brooke Army Medical Center, Warrior Transition Battalion; and Command Sergeant Major, 28th Combat Support Hospital, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He currently serves as the Commandant of the 7th Army NCO Academy in Grafenwoehr, Germany. His deployments include Operation Desert Shield/Storm, OIF 07-09, and OIF/OND 10-12.
Command Sgt. Maj. Smith holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Masters in Healthcare Administration from the University of Maryland University College. He has completed every Noncommissioned Officer Education System school, to include the Sergeants Major Academy (Class #57), and distinguished himself as a Commandant’s list graduate for BLC, ALC, and SLC. He has also completed Basic Airborne School, Basic Mountaineering and Rappeling Course, Equal Opportunity Course, Combatives Level I, Anti-Terrorism Level II, USASMA’s First Sergeant Course, Manpower and Force Management Course, BN and BDE CSM Development Course, AMEDD pre-command Course, and USASMA’s Commandant Pre-command course.
Command Sgt. Maj. Smith’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (Silver OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (2 OLCs), the Army Achievement Medal (Silver OLC) and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He wears the Parachutist Badge, Driver’s Badge and German Army Proficiency Badge (Gold). He is also a member of the prestigious Order of Military Medical Merit.
