Colonel Bobby Ray Pinkston is a native of Quincy, Florida. He was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Florida State University in 1983 and has had numerous command and staff positions in the U.S., Germany and the Middle East.
COL Pinkston commanded the 405th Army Field Support Brigade from August 2006 until August 2008. During his tenure he activated three Army Field Support Battalions and inactivated three combat Equipment Group-Europe Battalions. COL Pinkston had previously commanded the 18th Corps Support Battalion from June 2001-June 2003. This command tour included deploying the battalion to Operation Iraqi Freedom. COL Pinkston has also served as the G4 for the 5th Signal Command, the Materiel Readiness Officer and Deputy C4 for Combined Joint Task Force-7. He also served as the V Corps G4 after it’s redeployment from OIF-1.
Other key staff positions COL Pinkston has held included the battalion executive officer for the 426th Forward Support Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Deputy Command for the Division Support Command, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). COL Pinkston also served as the Professor of Military Science at the University of Memphis in Tennessee.
He is a graduate of the Ordnance Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Command and General Staff College, the School of Advanced Military Studies, and the U.S. Army War College. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Staff Commendation medal, the Southwest Asia Campaign medal and the Air Assault Badge.
