Exercises

Besides hundreds of smaller military-to military interactions, we participate in numerous large, multinational landpower exercises throughout the European continent. These ensure interoperability with our current, and potential, coalition partners, and for working out possible mission command issues including computer network and communications interoperability. Because of our location in Europe, we are able to interact with large numbers of foreign militaries and routinely integrate coalition building and maintenance activities. These exercises are a smart investment. They not only build allies, they increase our military proficiency, and they create trust and understanding between the Soldiers and leaders of Europe and the U.S.

Austere Challenge

Austere Challenge is an annual joint exercise that enables USAREUR and other EUCOM service components to plan and execute full spectrum operations as a Joint Task Force Headquarters responding to a crisis affecting the EUCOM area of responsibility.

Flexible Leader

Flexible Leader is a USAREUR supported exercise designed to train EUCOM staff and Component Staffs in the planning and conduct of a coordinated U.S. response to requests for Foreign Humanitarian Assistance contingencies within the EUCOM AOR.

Guardian Shield

Guardian Shield is a USAREUR directed, 21st TSC and 7th CSC conducted, Defense Threat Reduction Agency supported, Command Post Exercise. Additionally, it includes a Field Training Exercise to train elements of the 7th CSC in planning and conducting foreign consequence management operations.

Combined Endeavor

Combined Endeavor is a distributed "in spirit of partnership for peace" combined multinational Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) interoperability exercise.

Odysee Sword

Odysee Sword is a Germany/Netherlands Corps conducted, USAREUR supported, command field exercise held in the NATO Training area in Bergen/Muenster-South. The exercise facilitates certification of the 43rd (NLD) Mechanized Brigade in accordance with Dutch Army Command criteria.

Crystal Eagle

Exercise Crystal Eagle is a NATO conducted, USAREUR supported exercise executed by the commander, Multinational Corps NorthEast. Crystal Eagle is a computer assisted/ command post exercise

Citadel Guibert

Exercise Citadel Guibert is a NATO conducted, USAREUR supported, exercise executed by the commander, Rapid Reaction Corps, France. Citadel Guibert is a computer assistend/command post exercise.

Bagram

Exercise Bagram is a Polish Land Forces Mission Rehearsal Exercise supported by USAREUR to certify designated Polish Land Forces Brigade Headquarters for deployment in support of ISAF.

Anakonda

Anakonda is a Polish Operational Command led, USAREUR supported exercise designed to conduct multinational training with NATO and partner nations. USAREUR participation in this exercise directly supports building theater security cooperation objectives. Anakonda is a command post exercise/computer training exercise conducted in Ustka, Poland and Drawsko Pomorski Training Area, Poland.

Immediate Response

Exercise Immediate Response is a USAREUR-led theater secutity cooperation exercise with the Croatian Armed Forces consisting of a company-level field training exercise. IR is conducted at the Slunj Training Area, Croatia.

Atlas Vision

Atlas Vision is a bi-lateral U.S-Russian Ground Forces exercise. The exercise will consist of a battalio-level command post exercise/Computer Assisted exercise and a platoon-level field training exercise.

Saber Strike

Saber Strike is a USAREUR-led theater secutity cooperation exercise conducted in the Baltic States (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia). The exercise consists of a field training exercise, a host-nation support command post exercise/computer assisted exercise, and a brigade-level CPX/CAX.

Rapid Trident

Rapid Trident is a USAREUR led, in the spirit of partnership for peace, exercise designed to promote regional stability and security, strengthen partnership capacity, and foster trust while improving interoperability between USAREUR, the land forces of Ukraine, and other PfP and NATO partner nations.

Shared Horizons

Shared Horizons is an "in spirit of partnership for peace" combined multinational, humaitarion assistance/disaster response exercise. SH is executed in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia.

Shared Resilience
(MEDCEUR)

Shared Resilience is a EUCOM directed, USAREUR supported exercise in the planning and conduct of a coordinated U.S. response to requests for Foreign humanitarian assistance contingencies within the EUCOM AOR. USAREUR supports EUCOM training by providing select support for the planning and execution of SR.

Cooperative Resolve

Cooperative Resolve is a USAREUR conducted battalion level CPX/CAX supported with Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation from the Joint Multinational Training Command. CR is conducted in Ankara, Turkey with focus on training participants in a battalion staff llevel coalition security, stability, transition and reconstruction operation.

Juniper Falcon

Juniper Falcon is designed to train and exercise the HQ EUCOM Combined Coordination Center to respond to a crisis in the EUCOM area of responsibiliity, and to support the readiness of a JFHQ assigned to the EUCOM AOR in accordance with EUCOM training guidance.

Unified Endeavor

Unified Endeavor is a mission rehearsal exercise conducted with the Joint and Coalition Warfighting Center and NATO-Joint Forces. UE is a multi-tier, distributed command post exercise/computer assisted exercise that trains, rehearses and contributes to the overall preparation of the primary HQ for units that will be assigned as/attached to ISAF.
