By Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, U.S. Army Europe Commanding General
During the next two weeks, many from our USAREUR family will have the opportunity to travel and experience new European adventures. Others will remain at their Kasernes and Garrisons, relaxing with loved ones. No matter your plans, may you and your families experience extreme happiness when you see the joy of children's faces around the tree on Christmas morning, or as you share in the lighting of the eight candles associated with the festival of lights.
But remember, some from our family will be deployed to the fight in Afghanistan, the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, or on duty at a radar site on a lonely and cold mountaintop in Turkey. If your family is not experiencing a deployment right now, please keep those who are on those missions in your thoughts and prayers. If you are deployed and you're reading this note, know we are thinking of you and remembering our own deployment experiences during this time of the year when family is so important.
For everyone who contributes so much to our Nation and our mission in USAREUR, Sue and I wish all of you a Merry and Blessed Christmas and a Peaceful and Happy Hanukah, and we hope the joy of the season is in all of your hearts.
