Deputy Commanding General
Maj. Gen. Richard C. Longo
In February the Chief of Staff of the Army announced that Maj. Gen. Richard C. Longo, commander of Task Force 2010, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, had been selected for assignment as U.S. Army Europe deputy commanding general and chief of staff.
Longo has served with the task force in Afghanistan since April 2012. He served previously with USAREUR in Germany as executive officer to the deputy USAREUR commander from 2005-2006, and from 2003-2005 as commander of 1st Infantry Division Artillery in Germany and deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom. His other European assignments include service as chief of the operations division of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, and as a platoon leader, executive officer and commander with V Corps' C Battery, 1st Battalion, 333rd Field Artillery.
