HEIDELBERG, Germany -- The Europe Regional Dental Command (ERDC) received recognition for its outstanding patient safety initiatives and program at the November annual joint conference of the Association of Military Surgeons held in St. Louis.

According to Col. Randy Ball, ERDC commander, the high number of awards the organization received stemmed from a number of major initiatives that placed a greater emphasis on patient and staff education in addition to assigning a Patient Safety Advocate to each dental facility within the region.

Lt. Col. Ingrid Beard-Howell, the ERDC Patient Safety Officer, spearheaded the effort to provide the clinic advocates the knowledge and tools to maintain the focus.  Her efforts and the resulting regional impact earned her the individual award in the Patient Safety Champion - Regional Category.

Other awards that came to ERDC included:

Best Overall Patient Safety Program (Region) (1st Place)

Best Patient Safety Leadership Support (Region) (1st Place) – ERDC Command Team

Best Patient Safety Teambuilding (Region) (1st Place)

Best Overall Patient Safety Education Program (Region) (1st Place)
