U.S. Europe logistics chief to take key post in Afghanistan

Col. (Promotable) Steven A. ShapiroHEIDELBERG, Germany -- The Department of Defense announced March 16 that Col. (Promotable) Steven A. Shapiro, U.S. Army Europe’s deputy chief of staff for logistics, or G-4, will be assigned as the Director, Materiel Enterprise Integration and Retrograde Operations Center, United States Forces-Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom, in Afghanistan.

Shapiro arrived at USAREUR in June 2011 for his third tour in Europe. Prior to that, he was assigned as chief of staff, United States Army Materiel Command at Fort Belvoir, Va. His assignment there included duty as Operations Officer, Responsible Reset Task Force, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq and Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.

In addition to two yearlong deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Shapiro participated in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and Operation Joint Endeavor.
