PARIS, France–Today marked the official opening of the 2012 Eurosatory International Exhibition, which runs here through June 15.

Eurosatory, the world’s largest international land security and defense trade show, promotes U.S. security interests and illustrates U.S. European Command’s commitment to the Northern Atlantic Treaty Organization and allied interoperability.

The U.S. Ambassador to France, Charles Rivkin, explained the importance of the event.

“This week is all about technology, partnerships, jobs,” Rivkin said. “These are America’s best, and they need the best equipment to do their job. They are also America's future and I am reminded everyday what [the U.S. Army] and these great American companies are doing to protect it.”

In support of EUCOM, U.S. Army Europe Soldiers from the Joint Multinational Training Command, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, and 16th Sustainment Brigade are on hand demonstrating the capability of the U.S. Army in Europe.

Deputy of Security Cooperation and Capability, Michael Ryan, with Headquarters, EUCOM, explained that aside from providing the opportunity to further forge coalition partnerships, defense cooperation is another factor in EUCOM’s involvement in Eurosatory.

“[America’s defense industry] plays a big role in helping develop capabilities within the alliance,” Ryan said. “Through maintaining existing military capabilities and the ways allies work together, and identifying potential areas were the industry can help solve military problems,” Ryan said.

Established in 1967, this year marks the exposition’s 23rd year. More than 70 countries and 1400 worldwide vendors are represented at this year’s exhibition, which will host over 50,000 visitors.
