HEIDELBERG, Germany - The Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta, has designated the week of June 18 - July 7, 2012, as Armed Forces Voters Week, highly encouraging Soldiers and their families to be involved during the 2012 elections.

Command emphasis and involvement is requested to inform Soldiers on the importance of voting and on the individual preparations required before an individual can vote. This is will be an opportunity for U.S. Army in Europe Soldiers and their Families to receive assistance from their unit, state and federal level voting assistance officers in casting their votes for the upcoming November 6 elections.

U.S. Army Europe’s Soldiers will likely vote using absentee ballots; therefore, it is imperative to plan and take into account the time needed to register to vote as well as the transit time for requesting an absentee ballot and the voter ballot returning to the state in time to be counted.

With less than five months remaining before the November 6 elections, commands must aggressively ensure that all necessary resources for our Soldiers and their Families to cast a valid ballot are in place and appropriately energized.

Soldiers should visit their unit VAOs for more information on registering in their appropriate state or click here to register. For more information about the Federal Voting Assistance Program, visit their FAQ site.
