GRAFENWOEHR, Germany – United States Army Europe Deputy Commander Maj. Gen. Richard C. Longo welcomed as guest Gen-Lt. Vladimir Popov Deputy Commander Russian Ground Forces July 18th, during USAREUR Exercise Atlas Vision 2013, a command post/simulations exercise held in the Joint Multinational Training Command’s computer simulation facilities here.

The exercise was held July 15-24, 2013, at JMTC’s Joint Multinational Simulation Center complex at Camp Aachen.

Atlas Vision is an annual bi-lateral U.S.-Russian Ground Forces exercise and consists of a brigade-level command post exercise and computer-assisted exercise and takes place at the Joint Multinational Training Command July 15-24, 2013.  Atlas Vision is designed to promote military interoperability in areas and situations in which the two countries share mutual interests, such as joint peacekeeping tasks, coalition and regional stabilization, crisis-response, illegal weapons trafficking, search and rescue capabilities, counter-trafficking, and combating terrorism.

“We have the capabilities and expertise that make our facilities the first choice for an exercise like this,” said Col. Jeffery Meeker, Director of Simulations at JMTC’s Simulations Center. “Although every multinational exercise is different and has its own difficulties, the JMSC is designed to accommodate any requirement to create a realistic environment for U.S. and multinational forces to train together. The Simulation Center capabilities and its central location make it a truly unique facility in Europe.”

“The people at the JMSC are extremely helpful” said Col. Christopher Tone, Atlas Vision 2013 Director of Training. “This is the kind of exercise that the JMSC does exceptionally well.”

U.S. Army Europe’s strategic location in Europe allows it to interact with large numbers of foreign militaries and routinely integrates coalition building and maintenance activities with current and potential multinational partners.

The 7th Army JMTC is the largest training command outside the continental United States. Its vast ranges, simulation centers, classrooms and facilities provide realistic and relevant training to U.S. Army, Joint Service, NATO and allied units and leaders.
