V Corps deputy picked from 1st Infantry Division

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- Brig. Gen. Ricky D. Gibbs has been assigned as deputy commanding general of U.S. Army Europe's V Corps, the Army chief of staff announced Jan. 21. Gibbs most recent assignment was deputy commanding general (maneuver), 1st Infantry Division and deputy commanding general (maneuver), U.S. Division-South, Operation New Dawn, Iraq. Gibbs began his military career assigned to 3rd Battalion, 28th Infantry, 8th Infantry Division (Mechanized) in Bad Kreuznach in 1982.

5th Signal Command Commanding General Brig. Gen. Jeffrey G. Smith Jr. has been assigned as the deputy commanding general for proponency, U.S. Army Cyber Command in Fort Belvoir, Va.
