GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- An incident at a range here remains under investigation.

The Joint Multinational Training Center has a years-long positive safety record.

"We have stringent safety procedures in place," said U.S. Army Europe Chief of Public Affairs Col. Bryan Hilferty.

"Although we are in the midst of an investigation," said Hilferty, "those procedures, specifically safety procedures for a loaded weapon, clearly were not followed by the firing unit.

"JMTC is the crown jewel of the US Army in Europe, and we are proud of our tremendous relationship with the local community."
