2011 USAREUR Best Warrior Competition to begin July 24

HEIDELBERG, Germany – The best warriors from eight units throughout the U.S. Army in Europe community will battle for U.S. Army Europe NCO and Soldier of the Year at the 2011 USAREUR Best Warrior Competition July 24 through 28 in Grafenwoehr. The competition will challenge their military knowledge, warrior skills and endurance over five days of nearly non-stop action. The competitors are:

Headquarters, USAREUR

Sgt. 1st Class Hau Sun, a native of San Jose, Calif.

Sgt. Steven I. Hidalgo, a native of Fresno, Calif.

Pfc. Ruben Miguel Lopez, a native of El Paso, Texas

173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team

Staff Sgt. Jacob W. McClinton, a native of Gainesville, Ga.

Pfc. Travis F. Williams, a native of Philomath, Ore. 

21st Theater Sustainment Command

Sgt. James M. Byrnes, a native of Green Bay, Wis.

Spc. Michael A. Perez-Arce, a native of Lower Lake, Calif. 

12th Combat Aviation Brigade

Staff Sgt. Kenneth A. Moore, a native of North Branch, Mich.

Spc. David A. Loaiza, a native of Jamaica, Queens, New York 

1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, Joint Multinational Readiness Center

Sgt. Josiah S. Segebart, a native of Inianola, Iowa

Spc. Vinayak P. Gorur, a native of Phoenix

357th Air and Missile Defense Detachment

Staff Sgt. Dustin P. Sigmon, a native of Mooresville, N.C.

Spc. Zachery D. Iverson, a native of Estherville, Iowa

Staff Sgt. Ernesto C. Gaddess Jr., a native of Norfolk, Va.

Cpl. Haisam Younes-Sanchez, a native of Sarasota, Fla.

The two winners will be announced at an awards luncheon here, Aug. 11. They will represent USAREUR at the Department of the Army Best Warrior Competition at Fort Lee, Va., where they will compete with NCOs and Soldiers from Army commands from around the globe, Oct. 2 through 8.
