2nd SCR Soldier awarded Silver Star for gallantry in action

VILSEK, Germany -- Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, commanding general of U.S. Army Europe, presents the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action to Sgt. Jose G. Arocha of the 4th Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, during the regiment's change of command ceremony at Rose Barracks in Vilseck, Germany, July 27. Arocha, a corporal at the time, earned the medal in March during the regiment's recent deployment to Afghanistan for risking his life to save the lives of his fellow Soldiers after an insurgent disguised as a friendly guard opened fire on  his squadron.
