HEIDELBERG, Germany – More than 250 field medical personnel from units across U.S. Army in Europe, as well as U.S. Navy and Air Force personnel stationed in Europe and five Bundeswehr Soldiers, are striving to earn the Expert Field Medical Badge at the Grafenwoehr (Germany) Training Area through August 13.

The EFMB, approved by the Department of the Army on June 18, 1965, is a special skill award that recognizes exceptional competence and outstanding performance by field medical personnel.

The competition consists of a five-day training phase followed by an intensive five-day testing phase. The test includes a written test, three separate combat skills testing lanes, a day and night land navigation course and a 12-mile road march.

All candidates must qualify with their individual weapons, pass a U.S. Army Physical Fitness Test, meet height and weight standards, and have a current American Heart Association –approved Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.

Candidates who complete all phases of training and pass every test during the final week earn the right to wear the EFMB on their service uniforms.
