New V Corps commanding general nominated

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- The president nominated a new commanding general for U.S. Army Europe’s V Corps, the Defense Department announced yesterday.

Maj. Gen. James L. Terry,  commanding general of the 10th Mountain Division based in Fort Drum, N.Y., is also nominated for a third star before taking the helm of the Wiesbaden-based unit.

Terry is currently deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan as the commander of International Security Assistance Force Regional Command–South.

His military career started in U.S. Army Europe in 1979 with an assignment to the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division in Kitzingen, Germany.

Terry’s nomination for assignment as the V Corps commanding general and promotion to lieutenant general is pending Senate confirmation.
