HEIDELBERG, Germany – The Secretary of the Army issued a directive September 21 requiring Soldiers in specific pay grades to self-report convictions for violation of any U.S. criminal law.

The policy, which is effective immediately, requires commissioned officers, warrant officers and noncommissioned officers in pay grades E7 through E9 to report convictions announced on or after March 1, 2008 for any violations of U.S. Law.

Convictions announced prior to September 21, 2011 are to be reported no later than October 5. Convictions announced on or after that date are to be reported within 15 days. The timeline applies even if a sentence has not been imposed or the Soldier intends to appeal the conviction.

To report a conviction, a Soldier must submit a DA Form 4187 or a memorandum to their chain of command.
