U.S. Army Europe command sergeant major headed to International Security Assistance Force

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- U.S. Army Europe's senior enlisted advisor, Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Capel, has been selected to serve as the senior enlisted leader for the International Security Assistance Force and U.S. Forces in Afghanistan.

Capel, who has served in USAREUR for 18 months, will deploy to Afghanistan in January. Capel has completed five previous deployments, including two to Afghanistan. He served as the Combined Joint Task Force 82nd and Regional Command-East command sergeant major in Afghanistan for a year before reporting to USAREUR.

During his tenure in USAREUR, Capel served as the senior advocate for USAREUR's enlisted Soldiers and worked with the command's partner nations to improve noncommissioned officer training and quality of life.
