HEIDELBERG, Germany --

U.S. Army Europe will celebrate the Army’s 236th birthday this year with a week full of activities.

The celebration begins June 9 with a prayer breakfast at 7 a.m. in the Casablanca Room on Heidelberg’s Campbell Barracks. The theme of the event is Celebrating the Spirit and Soul of our Army. For free tickets and more information, contact the Office of the Chaplain at 06221-57-7385.

There will probably also be a lot of prayers at the next Army birthday event.

The four-player, team golf scramble June 10 at the Heidelberg Golf Course in Oftersheim, hosted by the Association of the United States Army, tees off with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Sign-in starts at 6:45 a.m. Participants must register by June 6. For more information, or to register, contact Dave Ellis at 06202-80-6388.

For those who are looking for a slightly faster paced outdoor activity, U.S. Army Garrison Baden-Wuerttemberg is sponsoring a free Army birthday 5-kilometer fun run/walk June 11. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Village Pavilion on Heidelberg’s Patrick Henry Village. The run will start at 9 a.m.

Units or organizations planning to run as a group should provide event organizers a list of their group’s runners in advance at 06221-57-6489 or steffanie.paoletti@eur.army.mil.

The Village Pavilion is the site of another highlight of the week-long celebration - USAREUR’s Army Birthday Ball. The ball begins June 11 at 6 p.m. and is only open to those 18 years and older.

Only a limited number of tickets are available for the Ball – they go on sale May 2. For more information about the Ball or to purchase tickets, contact the USAREUR Protocol Office at 06221-39-4507 or 4521.

The Army’s birthday is June 14, and it is only fitting that USAREUR is serving birthday cake that day at 10 a.m. in the Keyes Building Conference Room on Campbell Barracks. This event will include a reading of the Army Birthday Children’s Book. Children of all ages are welcome to attend.

Finally, members of the USAREUR and IMCOM-Europe culinary arts team will provide culinary arts demonstrations June 14, 16, and 17 at the Heidelberg commissary on Patrick Henry

Village from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Come watch some of the Army’s best cooks prepare award-winning dishes and get your culinary questions answered.

Visit your garrison’s website and keep an eye on the USAREUR Facebook page for more information and ways to honor the sacrifices Soldiers and their Family members have made over the past 236 years defending our Nation, preserving our way of life, and making the Army values their values.
