D-Day 80 Anniversary
U.S. military personnel and equipment will support and commemorate the 80th anniversary of Operation Overlord, most known as D-Day, from May 30 to June 10, highlighting the enduring strength of the U.S. commitment to European security.
The allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944 marked the largest multi-national amphibious attack and operational military airdrop in history. D-Day is considered the beginning of the end of WWII in Europe.

10th Mountain Division Soldiers conduct an air assault training aboard a UH-60 Blackhawk flown by Soldiers from 1st Infantry Division, near Sodankyla, Finland, May 26, 2024. These Soldiers are in Finland participating in Defender 24. This exercise is part of the largest NATO exercise held since the end of the Cold War and will integrate multiple NATO ally assets in the region in an effort to respond to any hostility in this region.

Immediate Response 24 showcased British Army, Polish Land Force, and United States Army working together sending thousands of pieces of tracked vehicles, such as Polish M1A1 Abrams Tanks and British Warrior Tracked Armoured Vehicle, along with cargo carrying wheeled vehicles across Lake Zły Łęg on the Drawa River using U.S. Army Improved Ribbon Bridge and British M3 Amphibious Rig near Drawsko Pomorski, Poland.

The 405th Army Field Support Brigade’s Benelux Battalion issued an entire Army Prepositioned Stocks-2 Multi-Role Bridge Company – including boats, bridge bays and ground transporters – to Soldiers from the 36th Engineer Brigade’s 43rd MRBC. African Lion 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of U.S. Africa Command’s premiere joint exercise, and the seventh year Tunisia has hosted. The exercise is directed by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa, running from April 19 to May 31 across Ghana, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia, with over 8,100 participants from 27 nations and NATO contingents, it is the largest annual exercise in Africa.

Meet Sgt. Cristofer Almanzar, a bridge crewmember with 43rd Multi-Role Bridge Company, 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade. Almanzar was deployed to the Drawsko Combat Training Center, Poland, in support of Immediate Response 24, to work on tactical water crossing operations, May 15, 2024. Almanzar executed a Wet Gap Crossing, an operation that uses the Improved Ribbon Bridge to move troops and equipment across a water obstacle.
DEFENDER is the Dynamic Employment of Forces to Europe for NATO Deterrence and Enhanced Readiness, and is a U.S. European Command scheduled, U.S. Army Europe and Africa conducted exercise that consists of Saber Strike, Immediate Response, and Swift Response. DEFENDER 24 is linked to NATO’s Steadfast Defender exercise, and DoD’s Large Scale Global Exercise, taking place from 28 March to 31 May. DEFENDER 24 is the largest U.S. Army exercise in Europe and includes more than 17,000 U.S. and 23,000 multinational service members from more than 20 Allied and partner nations, including Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

405th AFSB field hospital set up in Baumholder for DEFENDER 24

The 405th Army Field Support Brigade is very excited to provide the Army Prepositioned Stocks-2 equipment needed to build and operate a 32-bed field hospital for DEFENDER 24 — everything from generators and potable water tanks to load handling systems, air and heating units, Humvees, Light Medium Tactical Vehicles, containers and more — all pulled from the APS-2 worksite in Dülmen along with all the Class VIII medical supplies and materiel needed for DEFENDER 24.
Conference of European Armies for Noncommissioned Officers 2024

The 17th annual Conference of European Armies for Noncommissioned Officers (CEANCO) concluded in Tirana, Albania on May 6-10, 2024. The conference is co-hosted by U.S. Army Europe and Africa’s Command Sergeant Major, Jeremiah Inman, and Albanian Land Forces Command Sergeant Major, Blerim Çera. More than 40 NATO allied, and partner nation senior enlisted leaders took part in the event. CEANCO highlights NATO allies and partner nations’ ability to seamlessly work together to help maintain a stable and prosperous European and Trans-Atlantic region.
