Where Allies Train to Win: The Power and Purpose of Saber Junction 25
Sept. 14, 2025

During Saber Junction 25, held from August 14 to September 21, 2025, at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center’s (JMRC) Hohenfels Training Area in Germany, more than 7,000 participants and 1,000 vehicles from 15 NATO Allied and Partner nations came together to enhance partnership and cohesion while refining standard operating procedures at every level. Home to the Army’s most capable Opposing Force (OPFOR), JMRC provided the complex, high-threat scenarios necessary to build lethal, cohesive, and combat-ready formations.
81st anniversary of Operation Market Garden
U.S. and Allied military personnel will commemorate the 81st anniversary of Operation Market Garden, in the Netherlands, one of the largest Allied operations of World War II, connecting the strength of the Alliance and dedicated resolve during WWII to NATO strength and unity today. Eighty-one years later, the bravery and heroism of all Allies during World War II continues to resonate with U.S. forces around the world, who remain steadfast in their commitment to global peace and security. Operation Market Garden and World War II remains an enduring historic reminder of how Allies with a common purpose and vision forge proven partnerships and reinforce bonds that remain to this day.
The operation was an airborne attack launched in conjunction with a ground attack by the British Second Army. The two attacks were known collectively as Operation MARKET-GARDEN. The airborne attack was designed to lay a carpet of airborne troops along a narrow corridor into Holland from Eindhoven northward to Arnhem. Airborne troops were to secure bridges across a number of canals as well as across three major water barriers. The objective was to get Allied troops across the Rhine. Three main advantages expected: cutting the land exit of Germans remaining in western Holland; outflanking the enemy's frontier defenses; and positioning British ground forces to drive into Germany along the North German plain. The operation was a daring strategic maneuver that failed.

Preparing for New Age Warfare at Saber Junction 25
Sept. 10, 2025
|
1:06
During Saber Junction 25, soldiers from Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment (IR), role-played oppositional forces (OPFOR), using a drone to locate, identify, and engage training exercise participants at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center's Hohenfels Training Area, Germany. The drone, equipped with thermal imaging and capable of spotting vehicles up to four kilometers away, has been critical in locating scouts, directing artillery fire, and guiding units in real time. During the first four days, the 4th IR's OPFOR used the system heavily. By forcing rotational training units to adapt to constant aerial observation and precision targeting, the exercise delivered a more realistic and challenging environment for NATO forces training together.
